Following my earlier post about the chalk marks in Empingham, it now appears that they are NOT left by a criminal gang, but by a local running club!
The marks in Empingham were originally thought by police to be signs by burglars to let their gang members know which houses were easy pickings or good targets, but the perpetrators were actually the Rutland Hash House Harriers, who were marking out the route for competitors in a race.
So much for the Sherlock Holmes style clues - more like a Just William story!
