The £1.13million provisional grant is part of the government's New Homes Bonus scheme, which is allocated to local councils across the country.
Stroud District Council will get the pay out in monthly instalments over a year. The funding is calculated on the number of new homes built in a local authority area each year, with an additional reward given for the delivery of affordable houses. More than 200 affordable homes have been built in the Stroud district during the past three years.
Elsewhere in the county, Gloucester is set to receive £2.03million under the scheme and Cheltenham £699,135. Housing Minister Mark Prisk said: "For years, developers found themselves at loggerheads with communities unconvinced that their plans for growth would benefit them, but the New Homes Bonus is turning this around. "The bonus is a flexible, unring-fenced fund, which can be used to support frontline services, to provide housing infrastructure or to keep council tax down."
The grant is based on the amount of extra council tax revenue raised for new build homes, conversions and long-term empty homes brought back into use. Local authorities have until January 7 to make representations on their provisional allocations. Allocations are due early February.
