A recent crackdown in Bristol saw the police stopping around 60 cyclists cycling without bicycle lights in the space of just two hours. Riding a bike without suitable lights is an offence that normally results in a fine of £50 fine if caught.
Officers in Bristol are now, as a result, piloting a new approach where the cyclists are given a week's grace to get their bikes correctly fitted with properly fitted and appropriate bicycle lights.
According to the Fire Fighters Charity, 19000 cyclists are killed or injured per year in reported road accidents. The most dangerous times are between 8 and 9 in the morning and between 3 and 6 in the afternoon.
Cycling accidents in the dark are more likely to be fatal.
Lets not have the same problem in Stroud!
