A water feeder channel has just been created between the new channel at Capels Mill and Wallbridge Lock. A special Swedish-designed and built amphibious excavator was used. Its operator Damien Hobbis did all the work in reverse and explained: "I started where I was afloat and worked backwards to allow the Capel's water to follow me down to Wallbridge."
The Stroud District Council-led Cotswold Canals Project is undertaking the reopening of the waterways and its spokesman Dave Marshall said: "This was a stop gap measure."
