We normally use sister pub, The Cadogan, for a family Christmas meal but as this was the first one without my father, we decided to change to The Crown. We booked early so had a the time and date we wanted and as we were a largish group, we pre-booked. Spot on time, we were advised our starters were ready so we made our way to the table. We had a variety of starters, Mackerel pate, crab croquettes, whitebait but all who had the Christmas scotch egg were very impressed with it. For main courses, we had a mixture of beef, pork and turkey and all were cooked perfectly. Plenty of vegetables with more offered if required along with extra gravy. There was plenty on every plate which left little room for deserts although a few did indulge. The staff were attentive and checked on us at regular intervals offering more drinks and checking everything was ok.
Thank you Lucy and the team for making a slightly sad occasion a wonderful day.

Very nice feel to the pub, plenty of space, good quality furnishings.

Food excellent and service very much on the ball.

Would love to visit again and have longer to linger and try a dessert too.

I visit the crown regularly with my boyfriend and we always have a delicious meal with great service. The food is always faultless and there is always a warm friendly atmosphere in the pub/restaurant. We really enjoy the smoked mackerel pate and the Sunday roasts are always a winner!! After a long walk we stopped here for a bite to eat and had the deli sharing board which definitely hit the spot! I always struggle choosing off the menu as it is all so tasty!

We were recommended to come here and eat as new to the area. Positives are the pretty location and lovely old building. Unfortunately the food we ate was disappointing. I chose those the salf beef hash with fried egg which I enjoyed but the fish pie was just salmon and peas with one small prawn inside but was lacking in flavour. My wife had a Wild mushroom pie (no WILD mushrooms) to be seen with chestnuts which there were only two. Served with a poor gravy. Food was presented well but the flavours could not hit the mark.

Set in an idyllic setting. Modern inside. Large portions both starts and mains. Lovely food good friendly service. Clean comfortable seats, nice fire in grate. You can have drinks only if you wish.
Would go back. Bit more expensive but worth it.

Popped in hoping they were still serving food but unfortunately had just missed lunch. It looked a lovely place so we stopped for a drink by the fire, we were then told that the kitchen had kindly offered to make us something from the sandwich menu. We were so grateful they went out of their way to do this for us. Really friendly service, great portion size and a nice environment. If we're ever in the area in the future we will definitely be back!

We travelled to Hartest for lunch with relatives. The pub is set back from the road on a village green and is beautifully styled with a sympathetic yet modern appearance. The dining areas are comfortable and spacious and the menu is fascinating.
I ate the posh fish finger sandwich - absolutely huge - but one of our other diners had a pork meat sandwich that could have fed our entire party! Drinks-wise, there's a very full selection of draught beers and a good wine list.
Prices are mdoerate and reflect the sophistication of the establishment. It's a beautiful place, with great food and good service.

We recently visited the Crown after a car rally. Cars were arriving at different times which must have made it difficult for the kitchen however they coped admirably. The service was excellent and the food delicious. Many thanks to all the staff for looking after us.

I booked a table for a birthday lunch on a Sunday. I have specific dietary requirements and cannot manage a Sunday roast. once the chef was informed of this he arranged for mussels on the menu which he knew I could manage and were my favourite meal. Excellent service from the bar, kitchen and waiting staff.

I organised an evening car rally for 32 people which ended at the Crown. The staff were very helpful and attentive. The food which we had pre_ordered came out on time, freshly cooked and extremely tasty. It was served by friendly and helpful waitresses. A very good experience and good value. We had a lot of good comments from the club members and look forward to returning.

My daughter and I came here today for a light lunch. We wanted to try the deli grazing board in a vegan option which the Chef very kindly made for us as this wasn’t listed on the vegan menu. It was lovely. Very nice lady serving behind the bar, and our dogs were welcome too!! Will definitely be going back and would recommend. Thank you

Came in for my dad's birthday dinner. The food was delicious and the portions were very generous. The chef catered well to the fact I'm allergic to dairy. Lovely atmosphere and friendly, attentive service. Will definitely be returning soon!

Stopped in for a light snack and was seduced into more as started with delicious ham hock terrine with exceptional onion marmalade. Had to follow a cheese and chive pie, was dubious of description but Wow! What a dish! Beautiful subtle flavours, outstanding combination of textures and cannot wait to go back. I have my own restaurant so tend to be overly critical of others, this I highly recommend for food. Good value, GREAT food and warm and efficient service. Loved it! Well done chef! I’m still licking my lips.

Stopped briefly. Enjoyed the microbrewedbeers and the lunches. Staff very pleasant. Food tasty and place tastefully decorated. Ample seating. Menu quite extensive. Not cheap but plenty of options for most pockets.

A busy popular pub restaurant. The food was excellent - usual menu items of steak, fish & chips. Staff very busy but friendly. Nice atmosphere.

Visited the Crown for a birthday dinner which didn’t disappoint. Food was excellent, service was just as good. We had starters of honey and garlic chicken wings and hoisin duck bao buns, mains of steak and kidney pie and lamb chop and a selection of puddings for dessert, we couldn’t fault any dish. I was told they didn’t have any Pinot Grigio but was advised to try a similar wine, I was impressed by the knowledge of the waitress and the alternative wine was great! We returned for drinks with the dog today and felt very comfortable, they also have a lovely wood burner to keep you cosy. All the little touches were executed perfectly (shiny cutlery, clean glasses etc) and would definitely recommend. Great menu, great food, beautiful settings.

This was our first visit but with friends who have visited before and gave a good review! Sunday lunch was excellent quality and very generous portion sizes. We chose roast beef which was cooked very pink, this came with all the usual trimmings and a separate dish of fresh vegetables for sharing. Can highly recommend the dessert sharing platter as well which easily fed three or four as a light way of finishing the meal. Will be going again!!

We have been many times to The Crown and the food has always been reliably good. The setting is lovely, a typical country inn in a very pretty village. On this particular occasion however, although food was good, staff friendly, service was very poor. Our order was taken promptly but food took 50 minutes to arrive, this on a quiet day with only 5 tables occupied. We were not asked if we would like a dessert or coffee either.
Overall a good venue for lunch but service needs to be stepped up.

Our friends found this chain a few years ago and rave about the quality of the food. Our first time and we agree.
Didn't have starters but everyone of the 7 of us had something different, each of us we delighted with the flavours and portion sizes. Bit of a journey so it wont be our regular, that said if we are in Suffolk we will certainly check them out again

My wife and I went to the Crown Hartest three times over a weekend. The first time on a Friday lunchtime for a sandwich which was so delicious we decided to go back on the Saturday. It was very crowded so we had to wait, we had a drink at the bar and very soon our table was ready. Again the quality of the food was excellent and the service was very good, so much so we decided to book Sunday lunch. This time we took some friends and we were not disappointed, the food was excellent and the staff very attentive. In our experience over the three days we were very pleased, and we won't hesitate to go back. A lovely country pub in a very nice setting with above average food.
Well done and yum yum, keep it up.

I’m really picky about my Sunday roasts and the crown did not disappoint definitely one of my top 3 places to go for a tasty flavoursome dinner . There was plenty on our plates and lovey and fresh.we even left some . The fresh baked bread is also amazing . We didn’t have dessert but that’s because we were so full up . Thanks again . We will definitely be returning . P.s we drive 30 minutes to get here just for the roast .
