Good cheap place to eat. But quality and presentation of food drops the busier it gets.

Ate there a few times recently. Food good, staff friendly but don't seem that experienced or trained on the detail and the place was cold which made it a tad uncomfortable.
They take dogs which is a plus and on the whole if they turned the heating up we would recommend the place; though overall for good food and a traditional English pub would just about give it 4 out of 5.

I have eaten at the Crown many times usually for Sunday lunch and it has been very good every time. The staff are always friendly and efficient. The restaurant is old world but very comfortable and cosy especially in the winter when the fire is on. It is also dog friendly.
The Crown is tucked by the side of the village green and is not too easily seen but don't give up it is well with seeking out.
You will enjoy it.

Very nice dining experience. Enthusiastic staff, attentive and pleasant. Sunday roast all good, Yorkshire puds could do with not being flat though. Vegetarian option excellent as was the accompanying veg. Very nice thank you, see you very soon.

Found this gem when looking for somewhere to meet friends half-way and weren’t we glad that we did. Location is fabulous and was made better by the autumn sunshine.
We booked a table in the restaurant but the whole of the premises was just as nice. The food was lovely, all of us had different main meals although 3 of us had the pork and eggs Benedict starter which was excellent. The chain has its own micro brewery and the ales were spot on. Nice touches with complimentary still and spring water on the table.
Excellent and attentive staff and we were never rushed and were able to take our time over our lunch, as long as we needed. Will be back and will seek out the other premises in the chain in the meantime. Thanks.

This was our first visit to this lovely pub. I have a food allergy, so having checked the website I followed their advice to phoned before visiting to check whether they could cater for my egg allergy. The person I spoke to could not have been more helpful. She went through the menu with me to find out what I liked to eat, and what I did not like, then went to ask the chef to see what was suitable. She rang back a few minutes later and I was able to pre-order my meal when I booked our table. When we arrived we were shown to our table in the spacious dining room. In the bar a lovely log fire was burning. The pub was clean, staff were very pleasant and it was obvious that they did not mind people bringing their dogs inside. Outside there is a huge garden with climbing frames for children. It really is a good family pub! The menu is varied, with lunch, dinner, and kids menus, as well as a grazing platter to share. Our lunch was wonderful. My meal consisted of the mussels in garlic sauce for starter followed by a steak and ale pie (which the chef cooked for me without the usual egg glaze) which was accompanied with creamy mash, perfectly cooked savoy cabbage and a very good gravy. It was cooked to perfection...best pie I have had in ages! For my dessert the chef prepared an egg-free chocolate mousse which was lovely and light, yet tasted very rich. To die for! My husband had the Cromer crab mousse to start, also had the steak and ale pie, and the salted caramel tart. He said the pint of bitter he had was really good too. A lovely clear pint with a good head! They keep their beer well! The price of our meal was under £60, which considering the quality we though very reasonable. The ambience of the place was very relaxing, with easy listening music which was not at all intrusive. Our meal was not rushed either. The food was cooked to order, so there was a slight wait between courses, but that gave us a chance to relax and chat. I really don't mind waiting for food which is THAT good! We feel that we have found a gem of a pub and will certainly return!

We were celebrating a 40th and 70th Birthday and had a lovely meal. We had 2 children with us and were provided with a high chair. The food and service were excellent and our eldest loved the play things.

This beautiful pub is set in such a beautiful village in Suffolk. It serves food until 8.30pm on Sunday evenings which is such a boon as so many pubs do not any longer. We found it busy with a lovely atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and the food was not only presented well, but the ingredients were very fresh too. I had Sunday roast and all the food was served piping hot.

We were taken to The Crown by friends who live in Cambridgeshire for Sunday lunch.
This pub is set in picturesque surroundings, with huge outdoor, child friendly grounds.
All four of us chose the pork dish, which was beautifully presented, accompanied by crispy roast potatoes and a good selection of vegetables, plus extra gravy!
Plentiful, pleasant staff, plus good food - we will be back.

Beautiful interior and grounds, equally good service and staff plus the food is original and the menu is very affordable!
They just need to get some chilli sauce!
Other than that, a perfect lunch and would highly highly recommend. Top dollar.
Thanks again, we'll be back.

First visit to The Crown in Hartest for many years. Very good food attention to detail excellent knowledgable waitress.
Costs a little more than average but the quality is worth it. Evening meal, four interesting delicate tasting meals beautiful presentation.
I always select menu items that are difficult to cook at home. Give them a try.

We visited the crown in hartest on a very hot evening ,we found it to be a nice clean and well presented , menu a bit confusing all crammed together, good choices to choose from . However waited an hour after ordering our food to arrive which seemed to be to long as it wasn't that busy, the food however was worth the wait , we all enjoyed our evening at the crown , we would return for an evening out with our friends 👌

For a couple having a nice sunday lunch in a gorgeous village, this is the acme of of what it should be- pub garden, nice wines, friendly waitresses, and good value for money food. My coley was maybe a touch pricy for £15, but the roast beef would have been a good bet, and the desserts were yum. Management ok with well behaved kids and dogs indoors - I was happy with my c£18 a head lunch there.

I ate here on a Friday lunchtime. There were quite a few tables taken. Staff were friendly and welcoming.
Lunch took a while to arrive although we weren't in a hurry. We enjoyed asparagus risotto, chargrilled halloumi and duck. the halloumi was a little too charred for my liking but a good dish.

We were staying with friends who lived nearby so decided to take them for dinner at the Crown. Great gastropub in beautiful location with lots of outdoor space. Tucked away in a corner so easy to drive past.
The menu has a wide variety of food including vegetarian. Two of us had the pork belly and chorizo pie - this is what a real pie should be like - amazing. All the mains were delicious and generous portions. One person had the trifle and it was just awesome. Four people with wine and beer - £83 which I thought was very good value.
We were served by a lovely, very polite young lady who was very patient with us as we were talking for a while before ordering.
She told us that the Wednesday Pie and Pint finishes this week.

Great meal this evening and we took advantage of the Pie and Drink deal. I had the most delicious Fish Pie with a pastry pie case. Yum! We love this pub and always had a good meal and service.

The Crown is in a lovely village setting with outdoor seating and a children's play area as well as a large bar and restaurant. We took our toy poodle and notice that there were lots of diners with dogs too. (And there area lovely walks from the pub) The staff were all attentive and very friendly on our arrival and throughout the meal. We had two courses from the lunch time menu, 3 fish and chips and 1 blade steak. All were well cooked tasted great too. We all had sweets which were also good but could have done with more custard/cream.

I've been here on many occasions living just a few miles away. The Crown is a traditional English pub serving good quality pub staples albeit with a contemporary twist. The building is fantastic, sympathetically restored, with a roaring fire in the grate on cold winter nights. Large garden with great facilities for children in the summer. The Crown benefits from being part of the small, local Brewshed group of pubs so it's open longer hours than most village pubs and serves the great range of Brewshed beers.
