We visited the Crown on consecutive weekends and saw two sides of the service. On both occasions the food was excellent and the staff were very friendly. On our first visit the service was fine, a little slow maybe, but we really couldn't complain. The following weekend we were told that there would be a wait for the food as they were busy in the kitchen. This was no problem as it was a nice day and there is a great play area for kids outside and we were in no hurry. We eventually got our food 2 hours after ordering (due to the order getting lost) and when it came to paying, no discount was offered until my wife asked. If it hadn't been for the good experience of our first visit, this would have put us off returning, but the great food and overall impression of this lovely pub means that we will definitely give it another try.

I went to The Crown for the first time today and the food was outstanding, I had the roast beef and may I say it is with no word of a lie, the best roast dinner I've ever had! My sister had the pollock and scallops with salsa verde and this was delicious also! We were served by Nadine and Darren and they were extremely welcoming and friendly, making sure we had everything we needed, offering us extra veg and gravy and ensuring everything was OK with our meals. They even had a large party inside but you would have never guessed as the ambiance was so chilled out, the staff were relaxed and available to everybody. We sat in the garden with three small children and they have a massive garden and play area which is excellent to keep the little ones entertained. We even had a game of football and badminton while there were other families playing cricket. As mentioned above the restaurant has a very relaxed feel to it, it's like going down your local park on a sunny day but with a fantastic restaurant attached where they serve fantastic food. Very child and dog friendly, I would recommend this restaurant highly and will be back as soon as I can!

My fiancee surprised me with a meal here. We have been once before with friends for Christmas and loved it. We sat in a romantic booth, had lovely wine and prosecco. The food was just gorgeous. I had the smoked mackerel pate with warm homemade ale bread ( just delicious). My financee had a duck confit which was so tasty. Our server let us relax we were not rushed at all. She was charming, suggested food and wine for us, fabulous service all night. Our mains were lovely. I has the feather blade and my partner the lamb, again both were stunning. I think this was the best steak I have had in years. It was a lovely romantic bight with delicious food, stunning wine and fab service. You should definitely try this place.

A quiet Monday lunch for our wedding anniversary.
I started with the carrot and smoked paprika soup and finished with the 28 day aged, feather blade steak. It was amazing!
The restaurant was quiet, it was a Monday lunchtime, but we didn't feel odd or out of place - the service was wonderful.
Thank you so much!

I went with a friend mid week for lunch and I can't say that any of the comments here about service or small portions applied in any way whatsoever. The pub is in a beautiful setting and has has a very high quality makeover inside and is decorated and furnished in a very nice and comfortable style. There is a bar area and an adjoining more restaurant style area although in reality is all one but two distinct moods as one is an old panelled room the other not. I had the fish and chips which was a good size portion and lovely hand cut chips that were straight out of good hot and fresh fat, you can tell by how nice and dry and crisp they were. The fish, battered was also perfect as soon as you cut into it you could see it was moist and succulent. The service was pleasant and not over attentive, can't stand that. Oh yes almost forgot to mention they have their own brew house and serve a very pleasant pint.

Easter Sunday ,and celebrating my birthday ,my family took me to The Crown for a beautiful lunch. There were six adults and a little one year old , we all had varied starters which ranged from whitebait, pate and chorizo scotch egg. Although very busy we were soon served our main meals of roast beef or turkey with waitresses serving drinks to us at the table. Deserts topped off a beautiful meal. Darren the manager is a very welcoming host and has trained his staff to look after you ,but they weren't in your face all of the time. Fantastic meal and a very good place to eat, well done The Crown.

A delicious lunch and good customer service. I had the vegetarian polenta and mushroom schnitzel. I'm normally not a fan of polenta, but this was delicious. A pleasant return to the Crown. This is the second time I have been since the new management team took over, and it's the best it's ever been. Thank you.

Visited on a Saturday with a group of Friends. First of, they have renovated the pub beautifully and kept the charm. Lovely pannelled rooms with great lighting and nice too that some areas are carpeted which dulls the noise of loud diners. They brew their own beer which was excellent. And wines were excellent and well priced. Think we drank too many but it added to the overall enjoyment! As well as the burgers which is what you expect now on gastro menus there were some really interesting dishes and unusual cuts of meat such as a plate of pork, lamb neck fillet and wonderful fresh calamari. We also went for some of the light bites before starters and the whitebait was particularly good although the pork crackling was less so with an aftertaste of oil. (And that was probably the only negative as food overall was excellent and the selection of British cheeses that followed was fabulous). Service was friendly and informal. So in all certainly one of the best meals we've had in Suffolk for some time and will definitely journey back before long. (Garden looked lovely so probably an ideal lunch spot).

Ate here last night for the second time, and again had impeccable service and lovely tasty food. There is a lovely range of starters and 'nibbles', and their steak and ale pie melts in the mouth! Add to that a warm real fire, good atmosphere (plus the biggest bowl of home-made apple crumble) and the evening was perfect.

This place has recently been taken over and reinvented by the same people who have been ultra successful at The Beerhouse, Cadogen Arms and One Bull in Bury St Edmunds and they are very good at what they do.
The same high standards of service, top class fayre and 1st class ales have been maintained and in The Crown the group has taken things to a new level.
I had the Blythburgh Pork with amazingly prepared seasonal vegetables (including a stunning parsnip dauphinoise!) and it was quite simply perfect. Certainly not the cheapest Sunday Lunch you'll ever experience but probably one of the best.
Treat yourself. ....

Ate here on Thursday with friends and every plate went back clean! My wardolf salad and smoked haddock rarebit were gorgeous but there was loads of other things I could have chosen. The atmosphere was lovely for mid week with locals, groups of friends and couples all fitting in side by side. I definitely need to go back in daylight to appreciate the lovely village and large garden (to lose the kids in) x

Visited here last night with my wife and a friend. After a warm welcome at the bar we were brought to our table in the recently refurbished dining area. The service was impeccable and the food far exceeded my expectations. We will definitely be back. Strongly recommend.

We don't live locally although Mum does. At 86 she needs persuading to try new things and places...so although she had been here ten or more years ago this was like a new place for her. And it was for us all.
It has been done up tastefully and cleverly so that there's a place for everyone - a place for a group to stand and gossip, a high stool bar area, comfortable "booth" type seats and a fine restaurant. Add in a wood fire, decent service, and good food and it has the lot. £150 buys you three courses, drinks and coffee for four people - so it is not "cheap"...but for a once a month treat...lovely.Recent refurbs like the Spread Eagle in Bury would do well to see what can be done with clever understanding of the market.

The crown is back to its exceptional service and amazing food as well as revamped children's play area, we have been a few times since the new management and are very pleased with the welcome and ambience of the place, the last time I went at lunchtime with a friend and had the venison terrine which was delicious and was very good value for money for the quality of food. The children's menu is varied which is good as I find most establishments only offer 'something with chips' for the little customers, expect a meal for a family to be around £70 with drinks. Waiting time isn't long even in busier periods the best village pub around I must say even if it is our local a very well done so far and we will be coming for a Sunday roast soon.

We've been there twice since the new proprietors took over and refurbished everything, and it's lovely to see it so improved in every respect. Clean and smart outside, a really nice welcome from the staff when you go in, the menu is modern and varied and the food was really well cooked and presented, and helped down with a selection from the excellent wine list. Well done to the new owners for all the effort and enthusiasm.

On the day of the storm (Monday 28/10) our power was down and we had no cooking facilities and did not want to open the fridge, through fear of heating up or losing the chill for food in there at the time (our excuse and we are sticking to it!!!). Our booking was accepted!
The present team at the Crown have been there only 9 weeks .... I used to go there before and had no complaints! Anyway the new team ..... the choice on the menu is good - but not extensive, thank goodness! They do have a vegetarian option which is well thought out, but I chose the duck liver pate, lamb and Carrot Cake Roulade. I was not disappointed at all. My family had different choices (a bubble and squeak soup: pork and apple starter (as a main) and chocolate brownies or white chocolate cheesecake with a cinnamon doughnut.) The only disappointing thing, which is extremely minor, is that the cinnamon doughnut, whilst definitely freshly made, did taste of chips.
The service was attentive and we enjoyed several bottles of complimentary water.
I am told by my Husband that the Beer is well kept and they run their own micro-brewery.
The cost is on the high side for the food, but actually I cannot really find any other fault. If living near by, or passing through then a 'must try for myself' place.

I have been going here on and off for years. I hadn't been for a while, and someone told me it was under new management.
I went for lunch. The menu is varied and interesting and the food was beautifully cooked. The front of house people were friendly and helpful.
I will go back. It's so much nicer than it has been for a while now.

We have just visited this pub after being advised it had been taken over. We were not disappointed. Although our table wasn't ready on arrival we were made very comfortable in the bar and the host ould not have been more apologetic. We were fine as we were ordering our drinks and taking in the sights and smells! When we did get to our table, we were very disappointed to disover a large family with the noisiest children, one who ust screamed and was never encouraged to cease! However we asked if we could be moved and this was accomodated - it wasn't the restaurants fault. When our meal came we were all delighted, a thoroughly good Sunday lunch, great choice of vegetables and plenty of gravy. My Aunt claimed the Cheesecake the best she had had out. The wine was good and we were cosy and warm. All in all a very enjoyable trip not marred by the antics of the rude family. We will be back.
