Learning and Development

Woodpeckers Private Nursery was established to create a safe and homely environment for children where they can create, explore and develop. 

Offering four different areas for learning, rooms are colourful, tactile and homely and staff consistently encourage children to develop their own identities: 

• Busy Bees (0 to 14 months)
• Little Lady Birds (14 to 24 months)
• Curious Caterpillars (24 – 36 months)
• Bright Butterflies (36 to 48 months) 

The baby rooms have specialist carers to help with new babies.

Daily activities may include one-to-one sessions, group learning, music, computers, drama, creative activities, forest school trips, French lessons and outdoor activities.  They also have links with a local residential care home, where children meet with the older people and take part in parties, games and activities. 

Working alongside families, parents/guardians are encouraged to have an active role in their child's learning experience through daily conversations, written daily diaries, and online learning journals as part of the general day to day practice of the school.  Flexible session times are also available to fit around working commitments.

Nutritious Meals

All meals are freshly prepared and cooked on the premises by their resident cook.  Special dietary requirements are catered for and children are encouraged to eat a balanced diet that is healthy and nutritious.  Children are also provided with milk and water throughout the day.
