Last night, something happened and it made me think.
Yesterday evening, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp (all owned by Facebook) crashed due to server issue (or router configuration I believe is what they're saying)
It was the evening, so my social media activity is usually mindlessly scrolling up and reading people's news or watching cats sleep in boxes.
But imagine if it had been 10am this morning? It could have seriously disrupted my working day. Every week I schedule and update my business member social media promotion, connect with the community and share local events, as well as talk to clients, prospects, supplier etc all on the socials.
So, it made me think. Are we too reliant on social media? We've seen how it be brought down with a technical issues, bringing with it our data and our marketing messages and in many cases, thousands of connections.
One of things that attracted me to starting a thebestof area was it's many varied marketing platforms. As well as the website (growing every year, month on month) we have email newsletters, networking events, good links with the local press and of course review... 1000s of reviews. If we lost all our social media reach tomorrow, thebestof Sudbury would be ok. Don't get me wrong, it would be a major pain in the butt, but we wouldn't lose everything,
However, would you? Do you have a robust website? An email newsletter talking to your customers and potential customers? Do you attend events where your prospects and future suppliers will be? Do you collect online reviews from your clients?
If you're reliant on one particular platform, you could be putting your business at risk. And with everything else the World is throwing us at the moment, you don't want to add that to list.
Being part of thebestof Sudbury could help. Just get in touch and we can have a chat.

Hello! I'm Penny from thebestof Sudbury, shouting about the best local businesses from Hadleigh through the Clare. When I'm not doing that, you'll find me knitting socks or tending to my 6 chickens
