Resilence

For so many, yesterday was a dreadfully sad day as we laid our amazing Queen Elizabeth to rest.

One of our colleagues at thebestof conveyed their own thoughts about The Queen and her legacy, which we wanted to share because its relevance to us as business owners is quite profound.

For me, The Queen’s resilience is what I find most remarkable.

Pretty much every single thing is different now to how it was when she first ascended to the throne.

And she had more than her fair share of personal setbacks, tragedies and challenges along the way.

But she came through it all.

She was resilient.

Maybe it's because she grew up in the war.

Maybe her generation really was more dutiful than those that followed, but her resilience ran deep - just as it must for all successful entrepreneurs.

Whatever the world threw at her she just got on with it.

She was resolute to the last (literally!).

Resilient.

On Christmas Day 2008, at 3 o’clock in the afternoon, she said this to the nation:

“When life is hard, the courageous do not lie down and accept defeat. Instead they are all the more determined to struggle for a better future.”

What better mantra is there for us business owners?

Well maybe this one, from her 2019 Christmas message:

“It's worth remembering that it is often the small steps, not the giant leaps that bring the most lasting change.”

She was incredible.

As I mourn this week, I won’t forget her spirit. Her wisdom. And for me, most of all, her resilience.”

The resilience that lies within all of us and from which can come the confidence to meet whatever challenges lie ahead.

Just as she did.
