On Wednesday evening, 5th July a new Sudbury Business, 1 Oak Home Care, held their launch event at The Granary in Sudbury.
1 Oak Home Care offers a complete home care service for elderly people, but to help combat rural isolation amongst older generations in Suffolk and in North Essex, they will organise practical help around the house, from putting up shelves or fixing squeaky doors. Working with a local DBS checked hair dresser, they will organise either home visit hair appointments or fully supported visits to the hair salon. They’ve launched 1 Oak Club, that offers coffee mornings, cinema visits, day trips and other social activities.
The launch event was attended by Sudbury Town Mayor, Sarah Page, local business owners, industry professionals, employees and family.
Founder of 1 Oak Home Care, Angel Doyle spoke passionately about her commitment to fighting rural isolation. She says “With figures of isolation so high, we want to ensure we do our part in supporting the elderly and isolated to get out and about within the community. Our plans to beat isolation isn’t something that is only offered to our clients, but something that we can offer to those who are in the community and feel lonely. The amount of people who attended the launch event is a great reflection of the support we have around us, we have a growing team of carers and support staff who are willing and eager to develop goals for our clients and those we meet.”
Mayor Sarah Page also spoke of the growing problem of loneliness, that effects 1 in 50 people over 65 in our county alone and how we, as a community, should support organisations that help tackle this problem. She wished 1 Oak Home Care all the best in this new venture.
There is clearly a need for this type of service, as even before the business was officially launched, 1 Oak Home Care have secured clients of varying needs.
Angel also mentioned recruitment at the launch event “We have had a fantastic response to our recruitment drive, with quality caring people coming forward. As an employer, it really is encouraging that people are gravitating towards the different approach to employment that we offer.”
