The Easter weekend is fast approaching and even though it’s just a few days away, the weather is looking somewhat unpredictable. With that in mind, here are 10 things to do in Sudbury and around West Suffolk whether the weather be wet or dry.

Hollow Trees Farm

Just a few miles from Hadleigh, Suffolk, Hollow Trees Farm has a wonderful farm trail that keeps children young and old entertained. If the heavens do open, you can always pop into their great café and farm shop to sample some rather delicious home cooked food.

The Quay Theatre

A real jewel in Sudbury’s crown, The Quay Theatre has Bookends: Simon and Garfunkel through the years, performing on Saturday 4th April

Melford Hall, Long Melford

From Friday 3rd April , National Trust property, Melford Hall will be hosting its annual Easter Egg hunt around it’s beautiful gardens. (Don’t forget to buy your tickets for LeeStock, held at Melford Hall 24th and 25th May)

Kentwell Hall, Long Melford

If you’re visiting Melford Hall, pop across the road to Kentwell Hall, which has a Tutor Eastertasic weekend planned with lots of Easter activities

Weavers House Spa, The Swan, Lavenham

Weather a bit rubbish and you feel like pampering yourself? Get yourself down to the medieval wool town of Lavenham and visit the newly opened Weavers House Spa, part of the Swan Hotel. Lots of gorgeous treatments and whilst youre there, you might as well treat yourself to a cream tea at The Swan

Stoke by Nayland Hotel, Golf and Spa

Into golf and fitness, stunning views and love a deal? Stoke by Nayland Hotel Golf and Spa have a fabulous deal on over Easter. Make sure, whilst you’re there you visit their marvellous gym, which has some wonderful personal trainers and great lessons; from spinning to swimming

Walk and a drink around Hartest

If the weather is showing signs of sunshine, pop to the beautiful village of Hartest, 15 minutes from Sudbury and Bury St Edmunds. There are some great walking routes that can all incorporate a visit to their beautiful village pub, The Crown. I’d recommend you time your walk, so you get to sample some of their locally sourced food. Wednesday is steak night (Cooked on the open fire) and Friday is Fish Night. Children and dogs are welcomed, so do pay them a visit

Gainsborough House

Gainsboroughs House is always a wonderful place to visit anytime of the year, but on 6th April, they’re having an easter egg hunt around the gardens.

Walk around Arger Fen

Arger Fen is a beautiful ancient wood, between Assington & Bures. Although the bluebell season isn’t quite upon us, Arger Fen is always great for a walk. The Suffolk Wildlife Trust are organising a Young Wardens day for 10-15 year olds, to teach them practical conservation in woods. Click here

The Town of Clare

The town of Clare is celebrating its links with the Magna Carta, signed 800 years ago. Throughout the summer, there are various events going on. Clare is worth a visit anyway. It has a beautiful castle park and lovely independent shops, cafes and an art gallery.
