If you’ve received an email asking for money (usually in the form of bitcoins) threatening that your website will be hacked, chances are it’s a scam, and they are hoping to scare you out of money but they probably can’t follow through on that threat. If this happens contact your website developer or whoever looks after your website but don’t immediately pay them, as there’s lots you can do. If you’re technically capable or you have someone looking after your website, these are the steps to follow:
Make sure the site really hasn’t been hacked, run a malware scan (we have this facility for all our website hosting) to make sure nothing malicious has been added. If it has delete the infected files and run it again till it’s clean.
