If there were two word that could sum up Woodhall they would be ‘caring’ and ‘happy’. Together, we represent a happy and inclusive learning community, that cares for everyone by catering for the individual needs of all our children. But you need not just take my word for it! During their last visit, Ofsted said, ‘Woodhall is a school for all children. In this highly inclusive school, pupils with a wide range of needs are warmly welcomed… Pupils are polite and enjoy positive working relationships with adults. Pupils are proud of their school and all that they achieve’.

Ofsted also reported that, ‘Parents are overwhelmingly positive about the school. They recognise how well their children are doing and value the support that they receive. One parent summed up the views of many by saying that, ‘The school has a lovely warm, welcoming atmosphere with a real family feel. Everyone is always willing to listen and support if need be. Welcoming children from 3 to 11 years of age, we are ever evolving, with a number of recent builds that have improved our learning environment, both indoors and out. The changes that have taken place have helped to stimulate and inspire a love of learning within the whole of the school community. Our children are determined and enthusiastic learners; their work is often show cased across our local network of schools, as well as nationally, through the wider work of our trust, the Unity Schools Partnership. Staff are constantly updating their knowledge and skills through an extensive range of professional development opportunities, including the National Professional Qualifications and Masters in Education. We also benefit from strong links with the Education Endowment Foundation and the Research School Network.

Our Early Years Foundation Stage classrooms are spacious and engaging places to learn, and offer a large, exciting outside area. For children in Year 1 to 6, our facilities include large, spacious classrooms. All our children have access to extensive grounds that include a wildlife area with pond, for outdoor learning and Forest Schools, a trim-trail, a playground that boasts a much loved bucket swing and slide, and a Scrapstore PlayPod. We also have an allotment and a soon to be installed Astroturf pitch.

In our Lime Tree Nursery, the emphasis is very much on learning outdoors; come rain or shine and using the principles of Forest Schools, you will find our children outside investigating the world around them… so wellies are a must! We accommodate up to 26 children in a session, with morning sessions running from 8:30am to 11:30am, and afternoon sessions from 12:30pm to 3:30pm. For those children who stay with us all day, they have lunch with us between 11:30am and 12:30pm.  

We believe that working in partnership with parents and carers, our governors and the wider community is critical to our success as a school. We reflect the diversity of our community by respecting, supporting and valuing our differences and our similarities, which we promote throughout our curriculum. Our curriculum is rich in experiences, with regular trips and visits, as well as other opportunities that sit alongside the delivery of key skills and the acquisition and application of knowledge. All children benefit from enhanced PE with Dellar Sports Coaching, which ensures they enjoy high quality sports provision all year round. Our links with Sudbury Gymnastics Club means our Year 3 children receive a year of additional gymnastics coaching, with opportunities to further their interest in gymnastics outside of school. In Year 4, all our children learn to play a musical instrument, which if they wish, they can continue into Year 5 and Year 6. In recent years, children have learnt to play either the flute or the cornet. Year 5 enjoy swimming lessons, and Year 6 go on a residential trip. We also work alongside Apple Education UK to integrate the use of iPads within our curriculum in the upper school.

Outside of school hours, we offer a 50-place Breakfast Club, that opens at 7.30am and a 20-place after-school club, that runs through to 5.30pm.  Each term, teachers and school staff run a range of clubs for the children to get involved in, which range from multi-sports to sewing, tag rugby to choir. We also run a homework club for the older children on a Friday.

With our caring and dedicated staff, we are passionate that the school brings out the best in everyone, resulting in excellent progress and enrichment for all our learners.
