This community based theatre is small in size, a little over 100 seats but big on atmosphere and with it's staff of volunteers is very customer focused, it presents some wonderful productions with appeal across all ages and tastes, including live streaming of opera and ballet from Covent Garden. With very recent films showing some afternoons it is a haven for seniors and the disabled on a winters day, or any other time really.
It has a reasonably priced bar with a very good selection of wines, beers and spirits, there is also a wonderful dining experience from a "pop up restaurant" available for some performances, check first. Where else can you watch live opera from Covent Garden and be home with a glass of wine well before the audience have managed to find a taxi

Obvious because it is a key place to attend. This theatre (a sort of centre for various attractions to the local community e.g. films, talks, music sessions, opera & ballet relayed from The Met, Royal Opera House, Covent Garden etc plus a delicious and interesting independent restaurant) is a very friendly place. Lots of volunteers - well prepared - give welcome and assistance. The help I have received here with wheelchair seating and manoeuvring, parking and other matters has been notable on many occasions. Just go for a bar visit and to discover what is on offer. Small but beautifully staffed.

Visited Sudbury and The Quay theatre for the first time in February for ‘An Evening With Guillem Balague’. What a charming place.

The Quay’s website says that the building itself began life in 1791 as the principal Sudbury Warehouse, 'The Great Granary' for The River Stour Navigation Company. It’s certainly got a very historic feel to it as the walls of the auditorium (which holds about 100 people) are exposed brick and timber.

The seats are new, comfortable and have plenty of legroom even for someone over 6’ tall such as myself. The theatre is a registered charity and is supported by volunteers. This and the building itself give the place an intimate and friendly feel you just don’t get with bigger venues.

The booking process for our show was quick and efficient. When we arrived a man was waiting in reception (a volunteer?) to hand us our tickets. No hunting around to find where to collect them, no long queues, just a great personal service.

There is a small and free car park at the front of the theatre and we had no trouble getting a parking place. Toilets (important to some) were on the ground floor, and were modern and clean.

All in all we had a really great time. Even though The Quay is an 80 mile round trip for us by car, we’ll definitely be back some time soon. Well done to everyone connected with the Quay. You are doing a great job!

The quay is much more than a theatre. The bar is very welcoming, with views of the stour; coffee is good and there is a costume hire place on the top floor.I recommend a drop in and suggest signing up for more information about events.

Went to see George Egg, Shed Chef, with 4 mates on Thursday 7th June. Met with a welcome by the volunteer staff. Good range of beers and spirits to help with the personal warm up. Then the show itself. Yet another terrific night of top class comedy from the Quay ( I have been to several over the last 5 years). Great entertainment and extremely tasty food to finish. Not bad for the price of a good show.

My friend and I had been planning a Hen Party for a while and due to unfortunate circumstances we had to find a new venue last minute to hold our own afternoon tea.
The Quay came up on our google search and it was the best thing that could have happened.
The employees are beyond amazing! They were so helpful with everything! We feel they went over and beyond with their customer service. They even provided us with extra helpful equipment that we had not asked for but were so grateful that they did.
The venue itself is wonderful for a private get together or just to go and enjoy a drink, it has a relaxed and fun atmosphere with a very friendly, helpful and professional bar lady.
The manager is a warm and welcoming lady that will immediately put your mind at ease and help with all queries.
The views are gorgeous for pictures as it is right next to the river stour.
The Quay pub/theatre took our crap situation and made it fabulous!
We highly recommend this venue for its building, bar, views, atmosphere and outstanding customer service! 💖
