Great food at excellent price. Very accommodating with request for smaller portion. Excellent lamb and pea pie. Very pretty village

We have been here several times over the last couple of years, the food is always excellent and the staff polite and helpful. It is not cheap, so we only go occasionally for a treat, or special occasion. But it is one of our favourites.

We made a second visit to the Crown, as we had enjoyed our first one. The Crown is one of a small group of pubs centred in Bury St Edmunds. On a decent day it was good to sit outside in the large rear garden. We enjoyed our bar food and the excellent beer brewed by the company for all its pubs. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and its obvious the standards of the Crown are high. We shall return next time in the evening to try their supper menu.

We came on Sunday, after a recommendation and we weren't disappointed. Lovely relaxed atmosphere, Friendly staff, great drinks selection, decent sized portions, we both had a roast which came with beautifully cooked vegetables and potatoes. Excellent value for money, will definitely return.

We visited last evening for the 1st time. Having been recommended by some friends and also frequent visitors to their sister restaurant The Cadogan we ventured to Hartest. We were warmly welcomed by the bar tender, ordered our pre-dinner drink and shown to our table. We found the menu to be nicely varied with plenty of choice as is the wine menu. The lady that served us throughout the evening was smiling all the time and explained any dishes we needed explaining. We recommend the goats cheese croquettes and pork scotch eggs with piccalilli as starters. The main course of braised Ox cheek was superb. Throughout the evening, Lucy the Manager, regularly checked we were satisfied and she has a lovely sense of humour. A thoroughly enjoyable evening and we will be back again. Both Cadogan and Hartest Crown are 2 very good restaurants as part of the Gusto Pronto business

Booked for Sunday Lunch whilst visiting the area , on arrival barman was very friendly and welcoming . We were quickly shown to our table by a friendly waitress
Good menu and reasonably priced , food was very good and reasonable value
Service was pleasant but rather haphazard , nobody had ownership for the tables - in all we had 4 different members of staff serve us ,after a long wait we had to ask for a dessert menu and likewise for the bill and then payment machine ( surely after you have provided the bill you would return with the payment machine !!!)

4 for a lunch mid week, although booked for 2pm, lunch til 2.30, 2 main items sold out.
However, no problems mix and match from the rest of the menu even coming back to check the order was correct.

I have had lots of recommendations to try this restaurant out so booked for Sunday Lunch today. When I called on Saturday they couldn’t book us in before 1530 on the Sunday, which was fine.
We arrived about 1515 and our table wasn’t quite ready which was fine, we had a drink and then shown to our table a little later. The Menu looked very hard to make a decision as there was so many lovely choices.Whilst the staff were very friendly we found the service extremely slow. We were left waiting for about 20 minutes before we could order.
They serve the bread in a lovely way, freshly baked in a brown bag on a chopping board.I had the beef and Stilton pie which whilst it looked a bit plain when it came out the taste was amazing, tender beef pieces and a rich taste of Stilton.
One of our party had Roast Beef and one had Roast Pork Loin, both were huge servings with thick slices of meat and a lovely rich gravy. We had finished our meals and waited for 30 minutes for some one to come and clear our dishes, in fact we had to go to the bar and ask for someone to clear, which they did, but then no one came to offer desserts or more drinks so we went to the bar and paid. I felt there seemed to be no one in control or overseeing the restaurant, which was a shame as we wanted more drinks and dessert but just decided to leave...
I would give this place a second try as the food was spectacular

Booked in for Sunday lunch and when we arrived the place was fairly busy (always a good sign I think). Had to wait for our table so we had drinks at the bar. Shown to our table and handed the menus and then left alone for absolutely ages. Eventually another staff member came and took our order. Two had roasts and one had pie. The food was excellent, plentiful and very tasty. I would have liked to try the desserts or cheese menu but the staff who were all very friendly were incredibly slow. Forty minutes after main course completed and still no body came to the table. Had to find someone in the end who seemed surprised that I would ask them to clear the table. I think the staff were all young and would benefit from an experienced hand to guide them. I want to reiterate the staff were very pleasant and the food excellent just the standard and speed of service stopped it being five stars. I will definitely be back to try again.

We booked a table for 4 of us today and it was one of the best Sunday lunches out I've ever had. The Roast Beef (pink) was delicious and tender, the accompanying vegetables were cooked to perfection and imaginative instead of the usual bowl of uninteresting "veg" one is generally given ! The roasted carrots and the parsnip mash were very tasty and the shredded cabbage/leeks were cooked al dente. Wonderful ! My only slight criticism is that there were too many tables in the room and so it was impossible for some diners (including us) to leave our table without having to disturb fellow diners, make them move their chairs and stand up in the middle of their dining experience. I realise that The Crown want to accommodate as many people as possible but this is slightly unfair on their guests when they have to play musical chairs !
