Anna Nilsson, deputy head greenkeeper of The Belfry’s world-famous Brabazon Golf Course, has triumphed at the Women in Golf Awards 2024 - taking home the coveted Women in Turfcare accolade.
The first woman to manage such a legendary championship course, Anna’s stewardship of the acclaimed Brabazon has been instrumental in The Belfry securing a contract to host the esteemed Betfred British Masters golf tournament until 2026.
Women in Golf Awards Founder, Nicole Wheatley, said: “Our judges were so impressed to learn about the efforts Anna makes to speak to schools and mentor young greenkeepers. She really is making a huge impression on the industry, and I am delighted she has won this award.
“By sharing and celebrating the success of women working in golf, I truly believe that we can attract more women into the industry.”
Leading the way as a female greenkeeper Anna (pictured), who joined The Belfry in 2019 as senior greenkeeper before being promoted to deputy head greenkeeper of the Brabazon Golf Course in 2021, utilises social media to inspire women to engage with golf, and shares her experiences of being a woman in the industry at events.
Dedicated to nurturing future greenkeepers, Anna also coaches students and frequently visits schools to talk to children about working in golf.
This is as well as studying for a level 5 Golf Course Management qualification.
Anna said: “To be acknowledged by an organisation that is such a champion of strong female leadership in golf is an unbelievable honour.
“This industry is full of so many amazing female greenkeepers who are doing an incredible job and I share this award with each and every one of them – together we demonstrate the skill, passion and power of women in this industry to innovate, inspire, lead, and make a vital contribution to its success.”
