Participants in the 41st Royal Sutton Fun Run have chosen 132 charities and voluntary organisations to benefit from the £302,085 raised in 2024.
It is the third highest total on record since the event began in 1982.
Event director Tracey Spare said: “For Fun Run participants to have raised a £115,000 more than last year’s total, during the current cost of living crisis, is an extraordinary achievement.
“A total of £579,000 has been raised in the three years since we came back following the covid restrictions. Another remarkable figure.
“Having spoken with some of the 132 charities and voluntary organisations to financially benefit, it’s evident the sponsor money is very welcome as those within the voluntary sector strive to continue to offer their services during a very challenging economic climate.”
The total raised and distributed since the first Royal Sutton Fun Run in 1982 has now reached over £5.4million.
Tracey added: “Back in 1982, no one could have anticipated that in 2024, the Royal Sutton Fun Run would still be a fixture within the annual event calendar in Royal Sutton Coldfield.
“Most people originally forecast a five-year life span, yet here in 2024 the unique event continues to attract participants from across the country and raise significant sums of money to support those living with physical, mental, and emotional life challenges.
“To have distributed over £5.4million in that period, is testament to everyone who has contributed to the event whether as a member of the organising team, commercial partner, volunteer, participant, or spectator. It really is a huge team effort and time for everyone to pat themselves on the back for a job well done.”
Next year’s 42nd Royal Sutton Fun Run takes place on Sunday 1 June, 2025.
Online registration for next year’s Royal Sutton Fun Run, opens over the first weekend of February.
