A copywriter from Sutton Coldfield has been highly commended at the Global Women in Marketing Awards.

Anita Ellis, who founded Lexicomm during the pandemic, was highly commended in the Copywriting category at the ceremony in London.

She finished second in her category to winners Ruth Dalal Azar from The Economist.

Anita (pictured) was one of nine shortlisted in the category and received plaudits for her entry - a website copywriting project for Subtle Speaks, a Community Interest Company standing up for young people in Birmingham and championing safer dance in the city’s nightlife.

Jack Young, Subtle Speaks founder, said: “When Anita sent over our copy, it honestly put a lump in my throat.

“We’d been working so hard on the content but really struggling to articulate what our projects are about and how we help young people.

“Anita managed to take everything we stand for, and turn it into a compelling story that is real and relevant for our audience. The new website is currently in testing and we’re very excited to about the imminent.”

The awards, organised and set up by Ade Onilude, founder of Women in Marketing, celebrated Hope, Humanity and Healing and gave particular consideration to work promoting inclusivity and equality.

The Copywriting Award was judged by Vikki Ross, brand and tone of Voice Consultant, well-known in the industry for her work with global brands and creator of #copywritersunite.

Anita, who set up copywriting agency Lexicomm in 2020, was one of two writers in the ‘highly commended’ category.

She said: “I am overwhelmed to get this kind of recognition, especially since Lexicomm is only just 18 months old!

“To be awarded highly commended and to be listed amongst so many incredible women (and some of the very best copywriters) is more than I could have dreamed at this stage in my business.

“A huge thank you to Ade Onilude for creating this platform that celebrates women in marketing from all over the world.”

The award ceremony, hosted by Tamara Gillan founder of the WealthiHer Network, saw women from all over the world come together to celebrate the very best of the industry with winners from ASOS, Cresta Hotels and The Brooklyn Brothers.
