A local poet, playwright, advocate and workshop facilitator has been nominated for the Community Champions scheme run by housebuilder Persimmon Homes.
Lisa Connolly, whose debut poetry collection "Built From Broken" became a bestseller within 2 days of its release on the Amazon charts, has been nominated because of her work as a wellness coach, recovery support worker and as an advocate for domestic violence awareness. Lisa is part of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.
Each of the 29 offices of Persimmon Homes across the UK make a donation of up to £6,000 every quarter as part of a commitment to leave a positive lasting legacy in the communities in which they work.
A spokesperson said:
"As well as building good quality homes and creating well paid, highly skilled jobs, our Community Champions scheme makes a real difference to people`s lives. We do this by supporting local charities, sports clubs and good causes across the country".
Lisa Connolly, who qualified after 3 years of training as a counsellor earlier this year, has a story of survival, resilience and finding strength not only for herself but in sharing that strength with others. Lisa is a social entrepreneur whose organisation, Built From Broken, empowers people to rise from brokenness and rebuild from the ashes.
Lisa said:
"To anyone feeling broken, I want to say this - though it may feel like an ending, it`s the start of something new. Our trauma doesn`t define us - how we rise from it does. I`m proud to use my poetry and my voice to remind others of their own strength. Life is a blessing and I am grateful every day for the chance to give back".
