Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School (BVGS) has launched its Virtual Careers Channel to offer students remote access to much-needed employment support.
The channel features a range of videos from alumni, parents and local businesses, offering students advice and guidance across various sectors.
The virtual sessions are designed to give students valuable information on future career opportunities, with regular feedback sessions scheduled so they can ask questions about the information provided.
The annual Careers Fair, which usually takes place in February, has been postponed due to the pandemic, so the Virtual Careers Channel offers a suitable alternative for students amid the uncertainty of the pandemic.
The school has also created a library of important resources that students can access remotely, which will be regularly updated throughout the duration of lockdown.
Brian Davies, BVGS development director, said: “As much as we enjoy our annual Jobs and Careers Fair, it was simply not possible this year for obvious reasons, so we needed to come up with a suitable alternative that would ensure students received the best careers advice in the current circumstances.
“With the help of local businesses, we’ve uploaded a catalogue of insightful careers videos that students can access remotely, allowing them to prepare for life after Bishop Vesey’s, whatever that may be.
“Under this new format, we’ve been able to involve speakers from all over the UK and abroad, who may not have been able to attend the traditional Careers Fair, so the new channel has its benefits too.
“Over the last 12 months, the entire country has had to adjust to Covid and BVGS has been no different. Our students will always be our top priority, so initiatives like these are crucial in allowing them to receive support during lockdown.
“We’d like to thank all the alumni, parents and businesses who have given their time to be a part of this project and also to our corporate partner, Ark Media, who were responsible for editing the videos on the channel.”
