An Erdington school has joined forces with Aston Villa’s Academy to provide schoolboy footballers with the chance to balance a full-time education with their football development.

Highclare School will support young players’ academic demands while also providing them with a flexible programme that fits in with their football journey through the Aston Villa Academy.

Aston Villa assistant head of education Ben Ashby said: “We are delighted to work with Highclare School to furnish our young schoolboy players with a development programme that meets their academic and football needs.

“Having followed a thorough process, it was Highclare’s flexibility alongside their commitment to the programme which has led to us working together.”

Highclare Headteacher Dr. Luker added: “Highclare School is proud and honoured to be in partnership with Aston Villa Football Club in delivering the educational element of the Elite Player Performance Programme (EPPP).

“The first cohort of boys commenced their GCSE courses with us at the start of term and we are delighted with the start they have made.

“Highclare has a fine and well-established tradition of helping learners fulfil their potential, and we look forward to a long and successful association with the AVFC Academy.”
