An organisation which provides support for school girls is urging for local people to continue to support them during the coronavirus crisis.
Cherished UK, based in Boldmere Road in Sutton Coldfield, is a non-for-profit organisation providing focused support for girls in primary and secondary school across Birmingham.
The charity provides mentoring schemes and self-esteem workshops aimed at empowering and developing young girls.
Cherished UK says that children are finding it difficult to cope during the Covid-19 pandemic. The charity has said that it requires more support in order to continue to provide its crucial services to young people.
Hannah Simnett (pictured), founder of the charity, said: "During this difficult time due to the coronavirus pandemic, it is easy to feel lonely when in isolation and making it very difficult to be positive about anything. We can't see our friends, we can't go shopping, maybe we have no one we can talk to on a one-to-one and regular basis.
“At You're Cherished CIC we know that children are finding it especially difficult right now to deal with this sudden change, and our girls, of all ages, who we normally mentor, need that extra thought and support in the best way we can. So far we have been keeping in touch by mailing encouraging postcards and we have received positive feedback from this.
“We would love to be able to continue doing this.
“As you are all aware, even this small gesture costs money. We print our own postcards, we buy envelopes and stamps to ensure we keep in touch with all of our mentees.
“We currently have 85 mentees, so for every £10 we receive it would mean that we could continue communicating with 8 to 10 of our mentees on a regular basis while isolation is in operation. Please help us by spreading the word and donating via Local Giving. Just click on the link and please leave your name and a message. Thank you in anticipation."
