Sutton Coldfield will shine bright over the festive season thanks to Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Council.

Lights funded by the Town Council have now been switched on.

There are more than 230 dazzling light features illuminating the town and local centres to bring festive cheer to residents and visitors.

The festive season is a crucial time for local shops and businesses, and the Town Council aims to help attract footfall to the town centre.

The Christmas lights help to support businesses and traders by enhancing the shopping experience.

The lights switch-on coincides with the launch of the ‘Multi Modal Travel Subsidy Scheme’ which runs from this week until 5 January, 2025.

Shoppers will be able to benefit from free car parking, free public transport and free cycling subject to availability, thanks to a project agreed by Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Council and Birmingham City Council.

The free parking will to 5 January, 2025, on Thursdays from 4pm and Fridays from 4pm, with parking free all day on Saturdays and Sundays, making it cheaper and easier to travel into the town centre.

The offer is available at the following car parks - Station Street, Upper and Lower Reddicroft, Mill Street, Anchorage Road, South Parade and Duke Street.

Cllr Simon Ward, leader of Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Council said: "I’m proud to see the town council continuing to support the vibrancy of our local centres and businesses through delivering initiatives such as the festive lights.

“Not only do they help celebrate the festive period, the lights, alongside the innovative festive travel scheme, will help attract more people to our centres.

“This, in turn, will result in more people spending their money locally and supporting our businesses in the Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield.”

All the lights in the scheme are energy-efficient LEDs, producing brighter light with less heat and significantly lower energy consumption than traditional bulbs.

Additionally, the festive lights will automatically switch off each night at midnight to further conserve energy thanks to funding from the Shared Prosperity Fund for the timers.

Christmas Lights can be seen in the following locations:
