Thousands of people flocked to the centre of Royal Sutton Coldfield for an unforgettable day of events celebrating the Coronation of King Charles III.
The events – all entirely funded by town centre business through the Visit Royal Sutton Coldfield BID – included stilt-walking palace guards, regal living statues, and a ‘bubbleologist’ who attracted a crowd of excited youngsters.
The street party feel was amplified by dozens of food vendors, plenty of seating, a traditional brass band, steel drums, face-painting, balloon modelling and much more.
Bid manager Michelle Baker said: “Everyone knows that Sutton Coldfield has a proud ‘Royal’ heritage, so we wanted our town centre to reflect that history with a day of celebrations.
“We were absolutely blown away by how much support we received with thousands of people coming into the town centre to enjoy all the attractions that were funded by local businesses.
“This was a historic event that people will remember for the rest of their lives, and it was inspirational to see the town centre come alive with a real party atmosphere.
“We are so very grateful for all of the local residents who came along to support local traders, and urge them to come back again for some of the brilliant events we have coming up over the summer.”
The Coronation festivities were the latest in a string of events in the ongoing Visit Royal Sutton Coldfield programme, which aims to encourage more people to choose the town centre as a destination to spend time, eat, drink, shop and relax.
Organisers Sutton Coldfield Business Improvement District (BID) are pledging many more throughout 2023, with eye-grabbing attractions lined up to bring people together in the heart of the town.
Among the upcoming attractions are a visit by Batman and the Batmobile on Sunday, June 11.
