Several years ago when I was working in Croydon, I used to pick my way across all the tramworks that were in progress to get to my office. It was always a rather messy and slightly irritating business, but, my goodness me, the final result was well worth it.
We now have the opportunity to have the tram system extended to Sutton and, speaking personally, I cannot recommend it highly enough. Carshalton and Wallington MP ,Tom Brake, is anxious to get demonstrable public support for this and I am happy to oblige!
The tram is transport for all. Whether you are the fittest person around or confined to a wheelchair, getting on and off is easy. The service is regular and, if you have just missed one, there is another one along in a few minutes. Being on its own rail system it is not affected by other traffic conditions and thus manages to run on time. The internal announcements are clear and understandable and, for greener Sutton, there is no pollution.
Tom Brake has a four step plan for better transport for Sutton which you can learn about HERE. Do have a look at this and show your support - particularly for the tram! As he states in his latest newsletter "Extending the tram could deliver thousands of new jobs, increase investment and spur economic growth across Sutton."
I think we could all do with some of that!
