The Westcroft Leisure Centre is re-opening on Saturday 26th January with a big Family Open Day in order to showcase the brand new facilities that the Centre can now offer. £11 million has been spent on completely upgrading the 25m 8-lane pool, expanding and modernising the 160-station gym , establishing a day spa and building a new library.
The day is completely free and is a great opportunity to have a good look at what has happened to the Centre since its closure in October 2011. There will be several sports stars visiting that day as well. Michael Jamieson, London Olympic 2012 Silver Medallist will be there along with Mark Hunter, the Lightweight Double Scull Silver Medallist and Beijing Olympic Gold Medallist. Kristian Thomas London 2012 Bronze Medallist gymnast will also be there as will Andy Turner, 110m Hurdles Commonwealth champion 2010 and Bronze Medallist the 2011 World Championships. In addition there will be two of the professional stars from Strictly Come Dancing, Kristina Rihanoff, world class Latin and Ballroom dancer, and Ian Waite European Latin American champion.
Throughout the day a wide and varied range of family activities has been planned.
Kristian Thomas will be helping to organise a Gymnastics Workshop
Kristina Rihanoff and Ian Waite will be judging a Strictly Come Dancing – themed dance competition.
There will be workshops and drop in sessions from the Everyone Active School of Dance
The Saracens’ Rugby club Cheerleaders, the Saracens Sensations will be holding workshops and drop-in sessions
There will also be a free family swim in the super new pool.
Westcroft is one of Sutton’s largest leisure centres and this significant refurbishment must surely make it the premier place to go within Sutton.
