Ex US president Jimmy Carter has agreed to become patron of the Dylan Thomas Centenary event this year.
Carter is a lifelong Dylan Thomas fan who has been highly instrumental in making sure the author gets the enduring recognition he deserves both here and in the US.
The various celebrations are now well underway with a conference held in Swansea of senior British literary figures.
A special exhibition held at Dylan Thomas birthplace is displaying collections of his writings and manuscripts including drafts and notes.
There is even a self portrait of the author which was drawn on the back of a letter to a colleague.
The collection of effects have been brought together for the first time with loans of items from as far away as Universities in America.
