David Phillips leader of Swansea City Council has been named local politician of the Year.
This is apparently the first time that a Swansea politician has won this accolade.
Mr Phillips a local councillor of 20 years standing has championed many Swansea local causes.
Notably he has led the campaign to raise the profile of the Swansea Bay Region and linked to this the ultimately unsuccessful bid for City of Culture 2017.
He of course faces difficult times as does the whole Council with the need to find cuts in the budget of £45 million over the next three years.
But in the meantime a well deserved pat on the back - not just best of Swansea but best of Wales!
