The Uplands area of Swansea, tucked just behind the student strong hold of Brynmill has undergone a make over of sorts recently.
No longer is Uplands a collection of townhouses come offices and local convenience stores, but now a destination for an array of different cuisines through to soaking up the more relaxed and less intense atmospheres in one of the number of new bars that have recently been established in the area.
People are travelling from all over Swansea and even further afield such as Neath and Port Talbot to experience the cosmopolitan atmosphere in the Uplands.
Looking for a bite to eat? There is plenty on offer in this small yet diverse pocket of Swansea. Take Verve 37 for example. Recently opened with a mediterranean vibe that appeals to a wide range of customers from groups to couples but you would be hard pushed to see children bounding around the place. The menu offers a selection of Mediterranean dishes, of which tapas appears to be a firm favourite amongst the clientele.
Pop next door to the Gower Kitchen for something perhaps a little closer to home. This typically British restaurant offers up rustic, seasonal dishes for those looking for something satisfying and hearty.
Where next? Noah's Yard is now an established social venue within the Uplands. Known for it's rustic Italian charm and variety in beverages on offer. This cosy establishment serves as a cafe, cocktail bar and wine bar, and does all very splendidly.
For those long standing residence and regulars of the area, they need not worry that the Uplands is forgetting it's roots. The Uplands Tavern, or known locally by most as simply the 'Tav,' still offers no frills fun with bands and great value drinks.
Who can forget the infamous Uplands Diner. Serving those more confident diners ready to take on such food offerings as 'the beast.' In case you were wondering, this is an entire french stick piled with all you could think of in a traditional fry up.
There you have it, stuck for somewhere new to try this coming weekend and fancy having a few options once you arrive? Try this little gem just up from Swansea city centre. The Uplands really seems to have struck a balance between tapping into the more cosmopolitan customer base and adding another edge to the area but not forgetting it's roots.
