There has been renewed speculation that a tram service could work for Swansea.
A totally new type of tram has gone into service in a city in China.
Instead of the overhead cables and gantries that are necessary to provide power for the vehicles the revolutionary proposal is for the trams to work on batteries.
These will be swiftly charged at each stop providing a sufficient recharge to take it to the next charging point.
This will have a huge impact on costs of the infrastructure and also the flexibility of routes.
Apparently the route of the metrobus has space and capacity for a future tramway.
There is no doubt this will be an impossibly costly undertaking for Swansea city council especially at the moment.
However could this be something that a private operator may consider for the future?
