The event is held every year and is always a big hit with families, former workers and train enthusiasts. Among the activities on offer this time around were interactive displays and a chance to learn how to be a signalman.
One of the highlights of the Swindon Festival for many people was having the opportunity to sit in the driver’s seat of the world’s fastest steam- powered car. The car recently broke the international land speed record clocking in at just over 148 miles per hour.
One of its drivers, Don Wales, said: “It’s been brilliant – we’ve had a really, really good reception from all the kids who are loving it. This is getting them interested in engineering and we want to inspire young kids to go away and be interested in steam.”
