Brainiacs Battle Against Breast Cancer

Charity Quiz Night in Bridgwater Raises Thousands for CoppaFeel! Cancer Awareness Charity

When 29-year-old Hannah Bristow was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, little did she know one of her best friends, Helen Acland, also 29, was undergoing tests on her way to being diagnosed. The pair share an extraordinary bond having gone through the fight against cancer together - a fight which they would win together.

Now, after a rollercoaster year of appointments, tests, treatment and tears the ladies are taking on a new challenge. This November they will be joining a likeminded group of trekkers to conquer the Indian Himalayas. CoppaTrek! for Coppafeel! will raise vital funds allowing the charity to spread their message far and wide - early detection saves lives. The pair had an ambitious fund-raising target of £7,200 and this weekend they smashed it!

With their total already at over £5,000, Hannah reached out to the venue and hosts of her favourite pub quiz to see if they could help. Local company The Quiz Hosts created an interactive, smartphone-based quiz and on Sunday 2nd June, over 130 people turned up at The Cornhill pub in Bridgwater ready to put their knowledge to the test.

The evening was full of fun, laughter and fund raising. Alongside the quiz, a raffle was held with an

amazingly long list of prizes donated by local businesses. The night raised an incredible £3038 which will go a long way in helping support CoppaFeel!’s mission to stomp out late diagnosis of breast cancer.

Hannah & Helen said, “We are so grateful to everyone who came out to support this event and help

make a difference. The night was amazing, and we raised an incredible about of money for a great

cause. Thank you to everyone who helped make it possible”

Mirko Fisher, manager of The Cornhill pub in Bridgwater said, ""At The Cornhill we are more than happy to help with events like this. The pub is and always should be community driven, helping where needed and bringing the community together with amazing fund-raising activities. Primarily this has been organised by the girls and our quizmaster Chris. All we have done is provide the venue. Good luck with the fund-raising guys!"

Local radio presenter and quiz host Chris Hill said, "When Hannah & Helen asked if we'd put on a quiz it was a no brainer! I've followed their story since they first went public. They've been incredibly brave to share their experience and raise so much awareness. Their actions today will undoubtedly save lives tomorrow."
