Hidden Gem – Taunton Farmers Market

How did I not know about Taunton Farmers Market?  I must have walked past it or through it before, but somehow it escaped me until last week on a shopping trip to Taunton.  I parked up in the Crescent Car Park and walked through the arcade out into the street to find the place heaving with people and stalls.

Walking around, I noticed fresh local vegetables for sale with no packaging, no food miles and best of all, the producers are also the vendors.  So you can be absolutely sure of where your food has come from and exactly how it was produced.  You can ask the stall holder any questions because they are actually there and they are very happy to chat all about their produce.

There is a stall selling the most amazing looking bread and cakes, just looking made me hungry.  A meat producer selling Venison burgers and sausages (they also had them in GF versions), so rich in colour that you can almost taste how good they will be.  Locally produced every time, small independent traders offering very high quality at a fair price that ensures that the businesses can thrive and you can continue to choose fair trade, farm to fork quality products that are sustainable and affordable.

I only caught a small glimpse of what was on offer on my quick visit but I was very impressed.  The whole atmosphere there was lovely, the traders all friendly and only too happy to tell you about their goods.  I will be going back as soon as I can for another look.  I hope to meet more of the makers and producers there and will blog again on my discoveries.  Until then, take a stroll down the High Street and discover the secrets for yourself.
