Jittabugs Theatre School - A truly diverse and inclusive place
Why do I feel it so important to be a Theatre School that is inclusive and diverse?
Most dance schools offer dance exams and these are an amazing way for performers to progress however they do not suit all children. You have children with a wide range of physical disabilities from dyspraxia to the more challenging. At JTS we believe every child should have the chance to be included and recognised and rewarded.
So here at JTS we use International Dance Rewards where adjustments can be made and there is no formal examination. This is an excellent introduction of an assessment process to the less confident students who would find a formal examination too daunting.
We turn nobody away at JTS and we have a diverse number of students who have totally benefited from our classes and feel included. I have been teaching Pippa for seven years now. Pippa has Down syndrome and has her own page on Instagram called @PippaCan.
JTS see ability not disability and Pippa loves to sing on microphone. She can blast out a song like all the other children. Pippa is an ambassador for #WouldntChangeAThing2023. (#wouldntchangeathing)
She is a great example how it does not matter your limitations, age, gender or religion and that ALL children deserve the chance to attend dance schools and clubs.
The reward for me being so diverse and inclusive is the pure enjoyment I see on the children’s faces .
