Starting Stems of Taunton has been an exciting challenge. It has been a year of change for me and has drawn on all my skills and initiative during the pandemic to not only keep trading but innovate and move forward into new premises too. My love of flowers and my eye for design has helped me enormously and my new shop reflects this everywhere. It has separate areas for design, packing, artistry, conditioning the flowers when they arrive and cold rooms for keeping them in the best quality until they are either incorporated into a specific design or sold as part of a bouquet.
Whilst you might think that I’m only doing funeral flowers, you’d be mistaken. My love of English blooms means that I buy a mix of home grown flowers and some imported ones to enable me to do all occasions. Weddings have been so difficult this year and my heart goes out to all the brides and grooms that have had to reschedule their celebrations. I am really looking forward to next year with all the bookings that I have and all the joy that these occasions bring. I thoroughly enjoyed Mother’s Day this year too, as I was much more personally involved than usual due to Corona Virus restrictions. With my work space being at home, I took orders as usual throughout the lockdown and delivered the bouquets myself. Once there I took a photo of the recipient and sent it to the sender to show them that the flowers were with their Mum. This was so personal, sharing the joy with both client and their mum, and I found this especially moving.
I’ve always enjoyed design, the texture and colours of the blooms being especially important to me. My background was interior design before I moved into floristry about 15 years ago. On a family holiday my daughter and I fell in love with a florists that we found, and she always said that she wanted to be a florist when she grew up. This little seed took root whilst I was working, raising a family and doing other things. I took a college course to do an NVQ Level 1 in Floristry and enjoyed it so much that I stayed and completed two more courses up to NVQ Level 3 and then a further one in teaching floristry and I hope in the future to run some seasonal workshops from my new shop. Christmas will be here before you know it and wreath making is such good fun. Watch my website https://www.stemsoftaunton.co.uk/ for any announcements or look at my feature page here on TheBestOf Taunton & Bridgwater for news.
I only use the best quality flowers for my designs and you can be certain of my attention to detail, whatever it is you require. Whether it be a small posy, a bouquet or table settings, silk flowers, memorial vases or occasion flowers, I will do exactly what you need. I have done some unusual memorial flowers in the past and recreated a Spitfire as a fitting tribute to a loved one in camouflage colours! Posies and bouquets are available here ready made in the shop or you can pop in and choose your own blooms. Quality is always assured as I have Gilbert my Quality Controller here on hand to make sure everything passes muster.
He is my companion here and loves to meet and greet my clients from behind the counter. My family is also involved with my eldest daughter helping me whilst she trains as a florist too. Deliveries are all handled by me so you can be assured of correct social distancing and I can be found delivering all over the place between Taunton, Bridgwater and Wellington in approximately a fifteen mile radius of Taunton. So if you see me out and about in my Stems of Taunton van give me a wave and pop into the shop to see what I have on offer, I look forward to meeting you.
