Alzheimer's Disease is just that, a degenerative disease, that affects approximately 50 million people around the world. Many people in the UK have personal knowledge of and have been affected in some way by this life limiting disorder. Alzheimer’s disease affects memory, thinking, behaviour and emotions and is a leading cause of disability and dependency among elderly people. There are many forms of dementia with Alzheimer’s disease being the most well known and accounts for over half of all cases.
The impact of World Alzheimer's Month is growing, but the stigmatisation and misinformation that surrounds dementia remains a global problem that requires global action.
World Alzheimer’s Month is an opportunity for everyone to work together to defeat this disease by raising awareness at all levels of the reality of it and at the same time countering the negative perception of the disease and the misinformation surrounding it plus by lobbying government/s for better help and care.
What can we do to help with World Alzheimer’s Month and make a difference?
By raising awareness and understanding of this disease locally, around the UK and beyond, replacing ignorance with knowledge and empathy is something that all of us can help with.
There are many ways to get involved, please see the World Alzheimer’s Month website at:

Check for local events and download information from the Alzheimer’s websites (above) to help with informing people locally.Charities rely on donations and giving to enable them to operate, a local drive to raise money for this worthy cause is always welcome – organise a collection, set up a sponsored event, have a fun day and raise money whilst informing people about World Alzheimer’s Month. Why not set the date in your diary for the 21st September which is World Alzheimer’s Day and the longest day to boot! What an auspicious day to have a fun day and make a difference.
