Championship side Wigan Athletic were Taunton Town's guests on Saturday morning (9 November), using Wordsworth Drive for a light training session prior to their game at Yeovil Town the following day.

The Latics, who beat Manchester City in Mays FA Cup Final, were put through their paces by manager Owen Coyle and his coaching staff, with a good number of last seasons cup-winning side present including goalscorer Ben Watson, Callum McManaman and Roger Espinoza along with summer signing from Norwich City Grant Holt.

Wigan boss Coyle was full of praise for the set-up at Wordsworth Drive. The session was excellent, he remarked. I want to thank the people at Taunton for their hospitality and for allowing us to use the pitch, the facilities were perfect. I wish them luck for the rest of the season

Peacocks chairman Kevin Sturmey said: We were delighted to help Wigan Athletic with a training facility on Saturday after being recently contacted by them. To host the current FA Cup holders was a huge honour for us and as we also won at Paulton in the afternoon, the whole day will stay in my memory for a long time.

Owen and his team were all very appreciative and accommodating. I knew our pitch was often being talked about but didn't realise the talk had reached Wigan! This shows how far we have come with our pitch and facilities and we hope to keep a link with Wigan in the future. It was a double success for both clubs at the weekend with Towns 3-2 win at Paulton on Saturday being followed by the Latics 1-0 win at Huish Park 24 hours later.
