Spend the day with a small group around the furnace crafting and casting your own bronze axe head, based on those made in Somerset 4000 years ago. This is a rare opportunity to learn ancient metalworking techniques in a small, supportive group.
Your tutor, Mark Vyvyan-Penney, from the Ancient Wessex Network, will take you through the whole process of making the moulds, charging the crucibles and casting the metals from the furnace. With time spent afterwards for cleaning, hardening, sharpening and polishing your replica axe head.
This unique event is limited to just 4 participants, ensuring a personalized and immersive experience, you’ll receive plenty of individual attention and guidance.
Afterwards you can take your hand-made, completely unique artifact home with you.
