This is a classical music 'first' for Taunton; don't miss it!'
This evening we present Southern Sinfonia's very special 'Promenade' concert for Taunton and the West. The 'Last Night of the Proms' has been established in London for many years and, as far as we know, this is the first time a professional orchestra has performed a 'Last Night' concert with its' Classics for pleasure' favourites in Taunton Garden town and Somerset.
The programme features music by Elgar, Wagner, Mozart and Vaughan Wlliams, whose famous composition,
'The Lark Ascending' ,
(voted 'one of Britiain's favourite pieces of music') will be performed by our virtuoso soloist for the evening, Richard Smith, who is also Leader of the Orchestra
.
After the interval all the traditional 'Last Night of the Proms' musical fun begins, including Henry Wood's 'Fantasia on Sea Shanties', Elgar's 'Pomp and Circumstance no. 1' and Parry's 'Jerusalem', with a chance for audience participation (though this is not obligatory!).

Following the 'Promenade' at 7pm the concert proper begins at 7.40 pm
