On this Civil War and Religion Tour, led by our knowledgeable volunteers, they will be concentrating on the first English Civil War which began in 1642 and will explore the role of Taunton Castle, the town and Somerset during the conflict.
They will briefly examine some of the causes of the war to give some context and consider what happened in Somerset between the end of the war and the restoration of the monarchy in 1660.
Secondly, they will examine the role of religion in the conflict and visit some of the wide variety of churches and chapels in Taunton, exploring how the history of some of them are interwoven within this war.
The tour will start at the Museum of Somerset, and has a walking duration of approximately 2 hours.
