This volunteer-led tour considers how the people of Somerset and especially Taunton responded to the challenges of the World Wars. Recruitment and mobilisation of the county infantry and yeomanry will be discussed and the role of Jellalabad barracks. The role of Taunton’s council during the conflict and other institutions will be examined. The tour concludes by looking at how the town commemorated those who died and some of their stories.
Walking duration is approximately 2 hours.
The tour will start at the Museum of Somerset.
