Children at ABC @ Hoo will be pulling on their wellies and waterproofs to brave the elements on Thursday, March 27, as they embark on a walk around neighbouring Hoo Farm to raise money for new Forest School equipment.
Penny Hustwick, owner of the nursery at Preston on the Weald Moors, said: “The babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers are all getting ready for the grand waddle around Hoo Farm and we are expecting some parents and grandparents to join in the fun too.
“All the youngsters at Hoo are quite used to getting their wellies on to either play outside or visit the farm but this will be the first time the entire nursery has been on a sponsored walk around the farm.
“It should be lots of fun. There will be many parents who have not been around the farm themselves so it will be lovely for them to join their little ones for the walk and learn more about the nursery surroundings.
“I think the staff are praying for some sunshine but I’ve no doubt the little ones will be wanting rain so there are lots of muddy puddles for them to splash in and out of.”
Money raised from the sponsored waddle will go towards buying new Forest School equipment for the nursery which opened just six months ago and last month was rated outstanding by Ofsted.
“Very soon we will be launching our own Forest School here at the nursery so we would like to buy some equipment to help turn our youngsters into little forest school explorers,” said Mrs Hustwick.
“The sorts of things we are looking at are special den building kits, magnifying glasses, bug collectors, specialist child friendly knives for whittling and a special outdoor first aid kit.
“All children taking part in the waddle have been asked to get a little bit of sponsorship for the event and every little bit will help fund the cost of this equipment.
“We are very excited about being able to offer Forest School classes to the youngsters. There is so much to learn from exploring the environment and here at Hoo it is the perfect setting.”
