From dressing up as pirates and princesses to baking cakes and growing their own flowers, children from the four ABC nursery sites in Telford have helped raise thousands of pounds for charity this year.
And it doesn’t stop there as youngsters at ABC Day Nursery in Hadley, Hollinswood, Lightmoor and Hoo prepare to dress as super heroes and get baking to raise funds for this year’s Children in Need appeal.
Nursery owner Penny Hustwick said she was immensely proud of the children’s fundraising efforts throughout the year.
She said: “In one way or another the children have helped raise a total of £3,364 for eight different deserving charities which is just fantastic.
“This money will go some way to helping and improving the lives of those who are seriously ill or less fortunate than ourselves.
“We try very hard in everything we do at all four nurseries to get children thinking and caring about others.
“It is a big part of our ethos here at ABC and our fundraising events, whether it be dressing up, baking cakes, growing flowers or doing something else is a great, fun way to teach children that we can do things to help those in need.
“We are hoping by the end of the year to have reached the £4,000 mark, which would be super.
“This will give us a really good target to aim for in 2015 and I know staff are already starting to think up some fundraising activities for the children to do in the new year.”
This year children have grown daffodils, baked cakes, dressed as pirates and princesses and held a Jeans for Genes day to raise money.
They have also dressed as scarecrows, collected food for a harvest festival parcel and taken part in a welly waddle.
Charities which have benefited from money raised include Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie Cancer, Clic Sargent, Cracker Jacks, Hope House Children’s Hospice and Mark’s Pit Stop.
