We’ve been singing ‘Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport’ a lot in the butchers this week and discussing what the strangest thing is we’ve ever eaten.

Our regular customers may not think there is any difference to the regular malarky that goes on in the shop - but for those who are not regulars: No, we’ve not gone mad.
I’m Lee Evans, butchery manager at G. N. Badley & Sons butchers in Gibbons Road, Trench, and as we prepare for National BBQ Week next week, we have just taken delivery of our new range of alternative meats.
As well as the regular burgers, sausages, ribs and chicken wings you will be looking to get on the BBQ, we now stock meat of the more exotic variety.

We’ve got kangaroo, crocodile, ostrich and venison steaks as well as kangaroo, springbok and buffalo and chilli burgers.
I for one am looking forward to tasting a bit of kangaroo or springbok.

It all seems a bit modern and out of the ordinary for your traditional family butchers that has been running almost 40 years - but we heard our customers asking as we responded.

As far as I know we’re the only butchers in Telford that supply these exotic meats but I can be certain we won’t just be supplying the people of Telford.

As I mentioned, we’ve modernised our business and every product we sell is also available online through our website.
Each day we find ourselves packing meat ready to be sent to different parts of the country, as far away as London sometimes.
So, in honour of the bank holiday weekend and National BBQ Week being celebrated across the UK - crack open the BBQ, cross your fingers for good weather and pretend you’re in an exotic location tucking in to the local delicacy.

Of course, the reality will be that you’re in Telford and experimenting cooking buffalo on the BBQ for the first time, possibly under an umbrella, with the M54 around the corner - but it will certainly be an experience!
