Five hundred and sixty turkeys,
one tonne of sausages,
6,000 pigs in blankets,
150 joints of gammon and ham
AND A PARTRIDGE IN A PEAR TREE!
- that was the shopping list for one Telford family this year.
But fortunately it was for Kay Badley and her son Simon to prepare for their customers at G. N. Badley & Sons butchers, in Gibbons Road, Trench.
The small family business looks set to make it another record breaking year for sales, as they just pip last year’s record to the post.
Managing director Simon said: “We really have been busier than ever this year.
“Last year’s sales was the biggest we had seen to date so for those few extras to come in this year, we just keep expanding.
“People are getting into the Christmas spirit and want all the traditional food for their meal.
“The figures are up on last year, only by a bit, but it means it is the best year since we started keeping records.”
The butchers was set up by Simon’s father Keith in 1976, who has sadly passed away.
It is now run by Simon and his mother Kay and is one of only eight butchers in Shropshire that offers an online order system.
Kay added: “We’ve introduced a few new options for this Christmas such as different varieties of hampers and we have also held our biggest online competition ever.
“Over 9,000 people entered the competition for a chance to win their Christmas dinner and it was shared more than 1,000 times on Facebook - as a result we have seen more traffic through our website and online orders are going up day by day.
“Traditionally this is obviously a very busy time of year for butchers but we haven’t seen it like this before.
“It has meant we have been working into the night for the past few weeks but it means all our customers will be pleased when they serve up Christmas lunch.”
