An independent optician in Telford is stressing the importance of people getting their eyes tested as the dark nights draw in and the clocks are changed.
Kally Dhillon, who has just opened her first practice - HD Eyes - at the multi-million pound Ironstone retail hub in Lawley, said eye tests were often neglected.
She said: “It is important that people get their eyes tested regularly. This is especially necessary when people are driving as it gets darker earlier in the day. Often people do not realise how much they are struggling to see properly until they start driving in the dark. The effect of low light means focusing is sometimes more difficult so it is important that glasses or contact lenses are worn if needed."
“It is also important to have an up-to-date prescription because eyes will change over time. Unfortunately with the reduction in light at this time of year, patients in their forties often begin to struggle with reading. The classic symptoms include headaches, pushing reading material further back or looking for the nearest light source to illuminate newspapers and books.”
Kally added: “The reflections from car headlights and street lamps can also cause problems and so as well as having a clean windscreen, glasses should be scratch-free.”
She added: “If anyone has any concerns about their eyesight then they should drop-in or call to book an appointment and I can give them a full examination to ensure they have no problems. If they need glasses then we have an extensive range from which people can choose.”
The Lawley retail hub, which is the new home of HD Eyes, is continuing to grow and boasts a number of household names such as Greggs, Subway and Morrisons.
There are also a number of new independent ventures soon to open, making the area a vibrant and interesting retail mix.
Free parking is available at the new Morrisons and outside the shop.
