Trick or Treat, Penny or a Sweet ....
Halloween is celebrated on October 31st and children and adults dress up in scary costumes including witches, skeletons, bats and ghosts, visit people's homes and play trick or treat.
But why do we celebrate Halloween?
Well the truth is, nobody really knows where Halloween originates, but what is known for sure is that Halloween happens on the eve of a major Catholic festival "All Saints", otherwise known as "All Hallows" ( 1st November) and the eve of a Celtic pagan festival known as Samhain.
Some people believed that at this time of year, the spirits of dead people could come 'alive' and walk among the living and if you dressed up in costume when going outside you would avoid being harmed. Could this be where the origin of the Halloween costumes seen today arises?
