Swimathon encourages participants to swim a challenging distance. Telford residences are invited to help join in raise vital funds in 2016 by participating in a national swimming challenge. More than half a million people have taken part in Swimathon since 1986, raising more than £40m for charitable causes.
Sport Relief is the official Swimathon partner for 2016 and between Friday 18 March and Sunday 20 March next year thousands of people are expected to take part in over 600 pools around the UK.
Telford & Wrekin Leisure services will be taking part with events at all four pools in the borough.
People of all ages, fitness level and ability can get involved in a range of different Swimathon challenges.
There are individual challenges of 1.5k, 2.5k or 5k, or why not join forces with friends, family or colleagues and take on a team challenge of 1.5k or 5k.
Swimathon sessions are taking place at the following times over the weekend of 19/20 March 2016:-
Saturday 19 March
Abraham Darby School Leisure Centre – 1-4pm
Wellington Civic and Leisure Centre – 1-4pm
Newport Swimming Pool – 1.45-4.45pm
Oakengates Leisure Centre – 4-7pm
Sunday 20 March
Oakengates Leisure Centre – 12noon-3pm
Wellington Civic and Leisure Centre – 12.15-3.15pm
Newport Swimming Pool – 1.45-4.45pm
Abraham Darby School Leisure Centre – 2.45-5.45pm
Councillor Liz Clare, cabinet member for Leisure Services and Culture, said: “It’s almost Christmas and a lot of us will be eating a little more, then thinking about making a healthier start to 2016. Why not make that commitment now by signing up to take part in the Swimathon at one of our wonderful leisure facilities in the borough.
“What a great way to get motivated for 2016, while also supporting the Sport Relief charity and all its excellent work.”
