Take a step back in time at Blists Hill Victorian Town and discover what life was like in the Ironbridge Gorge over 100 years ago.
Chat to the costumed Victorian characters as they go about their daily lives in the cottages, shops, pub and bank where you can exchange your decimal currency for tokenpounds, shillings and pence to spend in the town.
On arrival at the Visitor Centre you will be greeted by a stunning cacophony of sight and sound as massive images are projected on nine metre high walls telling the harsh reality of life during the evolution of mining and hot metal industries, and why Ironbridge was so important to the development of industry.
Next explore the magnificent Canal Street, which is lined both sides with a wonderful parade of shops. Admire the hats and gowns in the Drapers and Outfitters; dress up in Victorian costume and have your portrait taken in the Photographer's Studio; mail letters and post-cards in the Post Office and buy confectionary in the Sweet Shop. You can also enjoy a delicious portion of traditionally prepared fish and chips in the Fried Fish Dealers.
Afterwards, visit the artisans' corner and watch plumbers, tinsmiths and decorative plasterers at work. Walk down to The Green not forgetting to visit the Victorians in their cottages on the way, or pop into the New Inn for a pint and some refreshments. In the main season you can also have fun in the fairground or enjoy a horse and cart ride, you might even meet the village policeman on his beat.
Finally, take a seat on the recreated Clay Mine Railway (extra fee) for a short journey into a blacked out 'clay-mine' and watch a fantastic display depicting the story of a father and son as a reminder of the hard working conditions experienced by the thousands of miners in Ironbridge's industrial past.
